In an electric wave communication cable having a group of pairs of twisted-together insulated conductors, relative displacement between adjacent pairs is prevented by an insulating thread which extends along the length of one of the pairs in at least one of the interstitial spaces within the circumscribing cylinder of the pair. As shown in the Figure, six highfrequency pairs of twisted-together insulated wires, each pair twisted according to a different pitch, are arranged symmetrically around a central core consisting of a spiral arrangement of three pairs of twisted together insulated audio conductors. Both of the interstitial spaces within the circumscribing cylinder of each highfrequency pair are occupied by displacementpreventing members in the form of threads of solid dielectric material, the cross-sectional shape of the thread depending upon the intended application. The group of six highfrequency pairs with their displacement-preventing members is spiralled about the centre core-element, and the whole symmetrical assembly is wrapped with a layer of suitable insulating material. This wrapped assembly is enclosed within a polyethylene sheath 13. A conductive screen around the wrapped assembly may be provided, between the sheath 13 and an outer sheath. The central core element may comprise a single pair of twisted together insulated conductors. |
