The upholstery consists of a sprung core (11) which is enclosed on all sides by foam (10). The non-rigid foam section (10) incorporates springs (13) forming the sprung core (11). Also incorporated in the foam is a covering fabric which is permeable to foam and rests on the ends of the springs (13) facing the seat's upper surface. The springs (13) of the sprung core (11) are incorporated as free-standing springs in the foam section (10) and are joined to each other by means of wires (14). The springs (13) are incorporated in the foam when pre-stressed. Both sides of the sprung core (11) can have fabric on.
