The filter hood (4) is fixed by its open end at the orifice edge to a filter frame (1). The other filter hood end is configured in such a way that a self-supporting cantilevered hood is formed. For this purpose, a star is formed so that each two neighbouring web sections along a rim edge (5) are joined together as a seam (17). The filter hood is composed of one rectangular filter web material piece, from which the hood is formed without waste. Folding lines (15) and seam sites (16, 17) are present. By means of the reentrant corners (6) in the star, the desired stability of the hood and at the same time an advantageous conical shape of the hood are obtained, so that a plurality of adjacent hoods do not abut each other. <IMAGE>
