The floor cleaning utensil includes a handle (2) which is connected to the oblong cleaning head (4) by an articulated joint (1) which can be swivelled about one swivel axis (3) only which lies in a plane at right angles to the longitudinal extension of the cleaning head (4). The axis (18) of the handle runs at an angle to the work face of the cleaning head and at right angles to the swivel axis (3) of the joint (1). In this way the position of the cleaning head relative to the handle can be easily controlled by rotation during cleaning so that the more inaccessible areas such as under beds etc. can be reached more easily. The utensil can also be used to clean curved areas such as wash basins etc. The work faces of the cleaning head can be covered with a fleece cloth which has a high absorption power but is easy to disinfect and clean, which is of special use for hospitals.
