acid esters of polyglycols and polyglycol monoethers of formula Rf-CH2-CO-(A)m-(B)n-OR (I) are new. In the formula Rf is 3-12C perfluoroalkyl; A is oxyethylene; B is oxyisopropyl; R is H, 1-10C alkyl or Rf-CH2-CO; m is 1-250: n is 0-70, m+n =250 and n =0.667. m; and, when A and B are both present, they may be disposed to give a block, random or alternating copolymer. (I) are prepd. by reacting RfCH2COCl (II) with HO-(A)m-(B)n-OR (III) either in bulk or in soln. opt. in the presence of bases. (I) are low foaming surfactants and, as such, useful in printing. They also lower the surface tension of the perchloroethylene-water system and thus are useful in dry cleaning textiles. (I) are produced in almost quantitative yields.
