A horizontal deflection circuit for multi standard television receivers includes a pair of tangential correction capacitors (4, 7). An electronic switch (14) in series with a supplementary capacitor (13) is connected to the secondary winding (12) of a transformer, the primary (10) of which is connected in parallel with one of the tangential correction capacitors (7). The circuit may provide for east-west (E-W) pin-cushion correction by provision of the first tangential correction capacitor (4) in the path of the deflection current from the line output stage and the connection of the second tangential correction capacitor (7) between an E-W bridge modulator (17) and a coil (19) also connected in the deflection current path. Transistors and thyristors are both suitable for use as the active element of the electronic switch (14).
