Highly porous abrasive mouldings are made by using a mixt. of abrasive grains (a), a binder (b) and an organic material (c). The mixt. consists of spheroids with a core of material (c) surrounded by a sheath consisting of a mixt. of materials (a, b); and is pressed in a mould, then baked so material (c) decomposes to form the pores. The sheath is pref applied to the core of the spheroids by pelletising, esp. using a temporary binder, whereas the core is made by granulating fine material (c) or by pelletising. The core (c) is pref. made of ash-free coal. Used e.g. in the mfr of rotating or reciprocating grinding wheels, discs etc. Uniform distribution of the pores in the mouldings is obtd.
|
