<p>1513857 Injection treatment in sewers BOC INTERNATIONAL Ltd 13 May 1975 [8 April 1974] 15375/74 Heading C 1C [Also in Division E1] A method of treating sewage flowing through a sewer comprises introducing an oxygenating gas into the sewage to oxygenate the sewage, and the thus oxygenated sewage is contacted with members of solid material having a substantial surface area on which the growth of micro organisms effective to reduce the BOD of the sewage is supported, said members extending across the interior of the sewer without preventing the flow of sewage through the sewer. Figures 1 and 3 show gravity and rising sewers respectively. In Fig. 1 a portion of the sewage is withdrawn through conduit 6, by pump 8, injected with oxygen under pressure in chamber 10, and returned to the sewer to flow over the channels 4 and the aerobic micro organisms thereon. In Fig. 3 oxygen is injected at pipe 26, and oxygenated sewage passes through the funnel part of the sewer over fins 22 which have aerobic micro organisms on the surface.</p> |
