Because of hydrogen bonding the layer is stated to have a higher melting point, greater mechanical strength and creep resistance. The substance may have the skeleton CH 3 (CH 2 ) n COOH wherein n is 18 to 30, and have OH or SH substituted in theαor # position. Examples areα-hydroxy behenic acid orα-hydroxy tetracosanoic acid. The hydrophilic group may alternatively be the amide. A plurality of superimposed monomolecular layers may be employed.</p> |
