The basis of the material is an elastic textile which is ribbed on both sides (giving a wavy cross-section) or on one only (producing crenellations). A layer of latex is moulded on to this, leaving the ribbing exposed on one side of the latex; the other side is smooth and is covered with a knitted fabric. A garment is made from the material with the ribbing running along the body; the thickness of the latex is varied to keep the tension it exerts the same in the narrower as in the wider parts of the garment- or to control it in some other regulated way. The various therapeutic benefits to be derived from wearing such a garment are discussed at length in the patent.
