A closed-cell, thermoplastic foam is first used to form a blank. The latter is heated until its surface fuses and its core zone is plastically deformable and is then, together with a flat structure to be laminated on, introduced into a hollow mould. During the closing movement of the hollow mould and subsequently thereto, the blank adheres on its surface to the flat structure, the latter being pressed against the inner wall of the hollow mould to form the final shape of the workpiece. The process permits short cycle times and is flexible by the fact that the nature and relative size of the laminated-on flat structure can be to a large extent freely chosen. |
