<p>1397322 Phenyl formamidines CIBAGEIGY AG 6 Dec 1972 [7 Dec 1971] 56388/72 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein Y represents O or S, R, represents C 1 to C 4 alkyl, R 2 represents H or C 1 to C 4 alkyl, R 3 represents an unsubstituted or mono- or dichloro- or bromo-substituted C 2 to C 4 alkenyl, C 3 or C 4 alkynyl or an unsubstituted or mono- or poly-halo; C 1 to C 4 alkyl or C 1 to C 4 alkoxysubstituted benzyl group ; R 4 represents halogen, CF 3 or C 1 to C 4 alkyl group, and n represents 0, 1 or 2. They may be prepared by (1) reacting an aniline derivative of the formula with a formamide or an acetal thereof of the formula in the presence of SOCl 2 , COCl 2 , POCl 3 , PCl 3 , PCl 5 (CH 3 ) 2 SO 4 or trisyl chloride; (2) reacting an acid of formula with a halide of the formula: R 3 -Hal (3) reacting an acid of the formula with a halide of the formula: R 2 -Hal (4) reacting an acid of the formula with an amine of the formula: or (5) heating an isocyanate of the formula with a formamide of the formula Examples are given for the preparation of the compounds. They are useful as total or selective herbicides and may be used for the control of weeds during the cultivation of crops. They may be applied together with conventional carriers or diluents, surface active agents, dispersing agents, anti-foaming agents or other herbicides.</p> |
