<p>1503328 Repairing pipes COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 9 Nov 1976 [21 Nov 1975] 47956/75 Heading F2P [Also in Division H2] A split plastics heat shrink sleeve 1 for repair and protection of electric cables, pipes &c. has a closure device comprising two components capable of loosely engaging one with the other and one of which comprises a metal tongue 4 capable of being deformed around the other component 5 to prevent disengagement of the two components when the sleeve is heat shrunk. As shown the first component consists of a plurality of tongues 4 which engage through cut-outs 7 of the second component 5. The cut-outs 7 are closed by a rod 8. Alternatively the cut-outs may be formed as holes by punching. The components 4, 5 are both preferably of metal, e.g. aluminium, having an external coating of P.V.C. and may be attached to the sleeve 1 by integral moulding, welding or cementing. In a second embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the engaging components are formed as interengaging bent-over flaps extending across the width of the sleeve.</p> |
