Min. conveyance rate of 100-200 mm/min. is maintained in conveyance process for case-hardening steel articles with up to 60 mm. wall thickness from intrinsically non-hardenable steels with 0.1-0.23% C by surface-hardening with gas-O2 burners or electrical heating devices followed by water-spraying. Pref. steel also contains 0.6% Si, 1.8% Mn and 0.6% Cr, esp. (1) 0.1-0.3% Cr, and (2) 0.5% Mo and 0.25% V. |
