The needle valve 16 is opened against the bias of spring 22 by fuel under pressure supplied through inlet 24 remote from the valve seat 18 and a restricted passage 14<SP>1</SP> is provided between the inlet and a chamber 14a adjacent the valve seat. The passage 14<SP>1</SP> restricts the flow of fuel from the chamber 14a when the needle valve is closing on to its seat to maintain the pressure in the chamber 14a substantially constant during the final stages of valve closure. |
