Cpds. of formula (I) are new, as are salts (I;R=H):- In the formula, R is H or 1-5C alkyl, R1 is H or 1-3C alkyl R2 is H or 1-12c alkyl, A is S, SO or SO2, X1-4 are each H, halogen or alkyl also claimed are the salts of (I;R=H). (I) are hypocholesterolaemic and hypolipidaemic agents useful in treatment of hypercholesterolaemia, hyperlipidaemia and arteriosclerosis and for preventing cardiac malfunction. Doses are 1-200mg/day p.o. LD50 is >1g/kg.
