Glass pipe fittings are made with side channels by pressing a glass gob in a mould. In the mould, the side channels are horizontal, and the gob is fed into the centre point of the junction between the side channels, which are simultaneously formed by pressure in the mould. Process rapidly forms flanged pipe connections in a single pressing operation, where the fitting obtd. has high resistance to water pressure, and a mechanical strength 1.5-2 times higher than fittings made by glass welding.
