Mass prodn. of double glazing - where braking trolleys stop glass panes travelling at high speed on roller track

A pane of glass travelling along a conveyor track at speed Vp is stopped at an exact position, by hitting a travelling trolley which is stopped by a sensor receiving a signal from the pane. shortly before the pane hits a limit stop of buffer on the trolley, the latter is driven in the same direction as the pane, but at a speed Vt slower than Vp. The trolley is pref. driven by a motor along two guide rails, and has a brake pad on its upper surface. Above the guide rails is a brake bar with a rectangular cross-section contg. longitudinal recess on its bottom surface. The trolley brake pad enters the recess, where compressed air can force a braking strip down onto the pad, thus stopping the trolley. Used in the mfr. of double glazing, in conjunction with a station where a spacer and sealing strip is applied round the edges of a pane; and the pane can also be turned through 90 degrees while remaining horizontal.
