<p>The assembly includes a carrier and a number of separate plates of propellant. The plates extend laterally from a surface of the carrier, which is of non-combustible material, and bonding agents secure an edge of each plate of propellant to the carrier. The plates may be separate elements attached individually by an edge to the carrier. Alternatively, the plates may be attached to each other by strips of propellant forming a continuous surface with the edges of the plates; this surface being bonded to the carrier. The bonding is effected by a duplex film comprising phenolformaldehyde resin in contact with the carrier and polyvinyl formal or cellulose acetate in contact with the propellant. The assembly forms a charge with less tendency to bending an collapse with consequent misfiring of the motor when differences in pressure are set up over the length of the charge.</p> |
