<p>New substd. isovalent esters are of formula (I) and their optical and geometric isomers: (where R2 is H or CN; and either (i) A is O or NH and R1 and 3-6C alkyl, alkenyl, haloalkyl or haloalkenyl or a gp. of formula (II)-(V); where n = 1-3 and R3 is H, Me or Cl; (ii) A is CH2 and R1 is 2-5C alkyl, alkenyl, haloalkyl or haloalkenyl; or (iii) R1A is beta-naphthyl). (I) are useful as agricultural insecticides, esp. in combination with pyrethroid synergists, and as components of anti-mosquito fumigants. They have low toxicity to warm-blooded animals and have better light stability than conventional purethroids. Pref. (I) is 3-phenoxy-alpha-cyanobenzyl alpha-cyclohexylmethoxyisovalerate, prepd. e.g. from alpha-cyclohexylmethoxyisovaleryl chloride and 3-phenoxy-alpha-cyanobenzyl alcohol.</p> |
