Three pads of loose leaves which are to be bound, are placed side by side in pockets in a rotating drum. The pads pass under tools which pierce holes along the edges of the sheets and then wind in one continuous spiral of wire (5) in all three pads (3). The pads (3) then pass under two cutting tools (13) which cut the wire of the spiral at the two points (15) where the separate pads about against each. The blades of the cutting tools overlap each other and after cutting the wire bend the cut ends inside the coil of the spiral so that the spiral cannot be detached from the pad.
