A water heater has a blow moulded inner liner (1), reinforced to make it pressure resisting by glass fibres (6) wrapped spirally round it. The fibres are fixed to the liner in a few isolated places only (7, 8, 9) by means of a plastic composition applied over them in these places. In addition or alternatively they are held against the liner by a foamed plastic thermal insulation (11) which is injected into the space between the liner (1) and a rectangular outer casing (10). This method of construction cheapens manufacture and prevents undesirable odours from the plastic impregnating the glass fibres and contaminating the water in the container. The liner (1) can have thickened sections (2, 3) at top and bottom to which the fibres are attached.
