The quick exchange device for milling and drilling machines has a hand lever and an eccentric connected to an operating bar. The latter has jaws which hold the tool with the aid of pressure springs. Additional eccentric compensation springs swivelably engage on the eccentric; these springs supporting on the installation housing. The compensation springs present a different degree of eccentricity to it. When the tool is released, the compensation springs support the swivel movement of the eccentric, thus enabling a quick tool release to be effected with little use of manual force.
