1513233 Locking threaded fasteners VSI CORP 12 April 1977 [15 July 1976] 14994/77 Heading F2H A fastener 60 having external threads 68 to screw into a threaded bore 52 of a workpiece 50 is locked in the bore by a resilient split ring 64 having external ratchet teeth 82 which slip over the wall of a plain entry portion 75 of the bore 50 when the fastener is screwed into the bore, but which bite into the wall if the fastener tends to unscrew from the bore. The ring 64 is housed in an annular groove 72 round the fastener 60 and has a leading chamber 74 to enable it to be compressed radially inwardly as it enters the bore portion 75. In Fig. 4, the ring has internal teeth 62 of saw-tooth profile which engage teeth 66 in the bottom of the groove 72 to allow only slight relative angular movement between the ring and the fastener. In Fig. 2 the ring is splined to the fastener. The fastener is a screw socket, or a stud, Fig. 5, not shown.
