<p>A device for gathering metal nodules from the sea bed has a frame suspended from a cable lowered over the stern of a ship from a suspension and haulage system. The frame consists of side by side sections each with a sledge type runner (3) each side, with a gathering bucket (4) positioned between the runners during the gathering operation. Each trough is connected to a reversible winding mechanism so that first it is suspended above the gathering region, then tilted as it is lowered and dragged along. The descent is controlled by a hydraulic turbine log gauge.</p> |
