Coloured effects are obtd. on textile materials, esp. silk, by application to dyed material of Na thiosulphate in the desired design. It is applied as a satd. aq. soln. by means of a paint-brush to a dyed material that is still wet. The method produces a feather-like effect on dark materials and a moire effect on dark- or pastel-coloured materials. It is much more effective than previous processes involving progressive addn. of alcohol in the colourant itself, applicn. of coarse salt, or use of paraffin, since it gives regular degradation of the colour and is susceptible to fine control. The application of gutta-percha, obtd. from latex, dild. with 'essence F', by means of a paper cone to the treated material enables white lines to be added to the effects obtd. with Na thiosulphate.
|
