For a slit lamp unit used to examine the front ocular media, the crystalline lens and the vitreous body situated therebehind, provision is made of an attachment which uses polarisation optics and by means of which disturbing reflections of the slit lamp illuminating system can be fully suppressed. The attachment can be mounted subsequently on the slit lamp microscope and does not require any strain-free optics thereof as a precondition. It consists of a polarisation filter (2), which can be mounted in front of the illuminating prism (4), and a polarisation filter (1) which can be mounted in front of the microscope (5) and can be rotated about the microscope axis. <IMAGE>
