The advancement of an electrode rod towards a welding zone involves alternately fixing the rod at one of two points along the length located between the winding and the welding zone, by applying to one of the points a force at an angle less than 90 degrees to the direction of advancement of the rod. The force has a transverse component which sets the rod vibrating laterally and a longitudinal component which causes the rod to advance towards the welding zone so that alternately the rod is fixed and freed from the points to enable it to advance. The procedure prevents burning of thin rods during their advancement towards the welding zone and increases the efficiency of advancement of thick rods.
|
