The neck 17 of a quench chamber is connected to the lower part of a pressure gasifier through a collar 7, a metal sleeve 8, a top 8 and a slag aperture assembly including a slag outlet nozzle 4 and a burner 10 in the form of a ring surrounding the outlet 27 of the slag nozzle 4. A ring 15 is arranged just above the level of water in the quench tank, protected from falling slag by the narrowed neck 17 of the quench chamber and delivers air or a mixture of carbon dioxide and oxygen to flow upwardly over the collar 7 and sleeve 8 and cool them. The burner 10 Fig. 5 comprises a ring 22 with separate air and gas supply passages 23, 24 feeding two sets of nozzles in a downwardly passing sloping inner wall 28 of the ring. |
