[Also in Division A5] Derivatives of 3,7-dimethyl-7-octen-l-yn-3- ol and 3,7-dimethyl-7-octadien-3-ol of general formula wherein A denotes an ethenyl or an ethynyl group, R1, R2, R3, R4, R6 and R6 independently denote a hydrogen atom or a methyl or ethyl group provided that at least one of R1, R3 and R* denotes a methyl or ethyl group and R7 denotes a hydrogen atom or the acyl radical of a monocarboxylic acid having 1-8 carbon atoms are prepared by subjecting a ketone of general formula to a conventional ethynylation or ethenylation or to a conventional ethynylation followed by partial hydrogenation, and, where R7 denotes an acyl group, the carbinol obtained is acylated, the acylation and the partial hydrogenation being carried out in any sequence.
