The excitation coil of the electromagnetic relay is under alternating current and moves a flap armature. A permanent magnet is mounted on a yoke. The excitation coil (34) consists of two single coils (15, 16). The first one (15) is designed to provide excitation in each second half-period of the alternating current, while the other coil (16) generates an induction flux, smaller and with an opposite phase in relation to the first coil. Preferably the first coil has a greater number of winding turns. The two coils are typically parallel and a diode (17) is in series with the first coil. Alternately the two coils may be in series and the diode in parallel.
