The safety equipment safeguards operating personnel during handling of goods on the moving lifting table and switches off the lifting table drive when an obstacle is present in the lowering track of the lifting table. The drive of the lifting table is switched off by a switch (8) which is positioned within a base projection of the lifting table a predetermined distance (a) from its bottom. The switch (8) is activated by hand and by means of a deflectable cord or chain (5, 6, 7).
