Wood chips are continuously treated with resin in a cylinder with inlet and outlet pipes at opposite ends and a central mixer shaft driven at relatively high speed. This mixer has fittings which produce a cylindrical mass of material at the inlet end and move this mass along axially. The mixer also has mixer fitments in the resinification/mixing zone which extend into that cylindrical mass and discharging fitments at the outlet zone. In the resinification/mixing zone resin feed tubes have their outlets in the cylindrical mass and the main mixing cylinder has a non-stick polymer lining. The cylinder is of simple construction, and has low power consumption. Resin adhering to the cylinder wall is easily removed by starting up the machine, and no cooling jacket is used, the heat generated lowering the resin viscosity and assisting the process. It also saves heat in subsequent pressing.
|
