1,176,679. Dense sodium carbonate. FMG CORP. 5 Dec., 1967 [21 Dec., 1966], No. 55169/67. Heading C1A. A sodium carbonate which is susceptible to densification by sintering is produced by heating sodium bicarbonate at temperatures up to 265‹ C. and in an atmosphere having ambient water vapour pressure not above 205 m.m. Hg until conversion is complete. This product may be heated to densify at a temperature from 300‹ to 800‹ C. in a non-reactive atmosphere, the resultant product having a bulk density above 60 lbs./cu. ft. The preferred first step heating range is 110‹ to 260‹ C. and it is preferably carried out in a fluidized bed. Details of porosity and pore size are given. |
