<p>Compsn., for stabilising antipoliomyelitic vaccine and analysis samples contg. poliomyelitis viruses, comprises a suspension medium for attenuated living viruses of types 1, 2 and 3 or their mixts. comprising 0.3-1.0M tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane, about 100 mu g./ml. of L-cystine and optionally about 0.8 mg./ml. of acid hydrolysed gelatin. The vaccine comprising the attenuated viruses in the suspension medium is also claimed. Antipoliomyelitis vaccine and compsn. preserves analysis samples contg. poliomyelitis virus which gives increased viability and a suspension which is stable during transport and storage without having to freeze or lyophilise the vaccine/sample. The present suspension medium avoids the disadvantages of known stabilisers such as saccharose solns. (high viscosity, making them difficult to use and distribute) and magnesium chloride (disagreeable taste which makes oral vaccination of children difficult).</p> |
