A detoxification process for the waste sludge of electrolytical metal working factories uses a chemical additive to keep the poisons discharged from the electrolyte purification below a predetermined limit. The additive is introduced into the electrolyte in the supply circuit between the storage tank and the electrolytical processing machine. The electrolyte is passed into the purification device with a reduced content of toxic matter. This is a simpler process than the known detoxification methods of waste sludge. The manual treatment which is a health risk is eliminated and the disposal has been facilitated.
