<p>The electrical circuit is for assisting the starting of compression ignition (diesel) engines by a heating element (25) located in the combustion chamber. A switch (29) connects the battery terminal to the solenoid coil of the contactor (22) leading to the starter motor (23). A control unit (26) is connected to the starter switch. This takes current directly via the lead (28), whilst the starter is turning, to the heating element. When the starter motor (23) is not turning the element continues to be fed via the resistance (27) either for a predetermined time or until the engine temp. is detected to be correct by sensor (29).</p> |
