<p>1512483 Sewing machine; control mechanism BROTHER KOGYO KK 24 March 1976 [28 March 1975] 11866/76 Heading D1G A sewing machine having an electric motor, a single manually operable member 40 controlling the running and stopping of the machine, a regulator for the amplitude of lateral oscillation of the needle bar a feed regulator and 1st and 2nd knobs 13, 23 for the respective regulators is characterised by the single member 40 being shiftable between a first position for stopping the machine, a second position for running the machine under the conditions set by the regulator knobs and a third position for running the machine under predetermined settings independent of the knob settings by means of means connecting the regulators with the single member 40 whereby with that member in the third position non ravel seaming is performed with non oscillation of the needle bar and fine feed movement of the feed dog. It is stated that when the machine is capable of selectively performing lock or chain stitching it is arranged to perform the latter when the single member is in the second position and chain stitching when in the third position. Lateral oscillation of the needle bar is effected by a rod 130 carrying a roller 132 adjustably positioned along an oscillating lever 133 by linkage 17, 16 operated by a regulating plate 15 moved by the first knob 13. A feed regulating cam 25 of scroll form is movable by the second knob 23 to set, through linkage 32, 31, 30, 38, 37, a feed regulating member 36 on a regulating shaft 35. The single lever 40 is pivoted at. 41 to the machine head is connected through link 46 and switching mechanism 43-53 to a switching lever 50 pivoted at 51 and connected by a rod 65 to a lever 63 pivoted at 64 and having an end 63a and an adjustable eccentric roll 66 respectively engagable. when lever 40 is in position P 3 , with a pivoted lever 19 connected with the needle bar oscillation adjustment and with the feed control lever 30. A rod 69 connects lever 63 to a lever 68 connected by rod 73 to a pivoted electrical switch cam 71 associated with switches 74-76 included in the motor control circuit (Figs. 7 or 12 not shown). The switching mechanism 43-53 disclosed operates (Figs. 8-11 not shown) to automatically return lever 40 to position P 2 . When released from position P 3 , and when released after again being moved to position P 3 returns the lever to position P 1 . This corresponds to the sewing of a full anti-ravel seam.</p> |
