A tube container with closure at one end is produced from a sheet of partly crystalline polymer which can be drawn from a neck at a temp. below its m.pt. A ring of the polymer is gripped, a surrounding part is heated but below its m.pt., a punch is pressed through the centre of the stretched area so that surrounding material is drawn into a tube; this tube is cut off, and a closure formed and fitted into one end. Pref. the polymer is dense polyethylene, polypropylene, their copolymer, polyamide or polyester. The low cost, efficient process, produces plastic tubes with similar dead-fold characteristics to those of metal tooth-paste tubes. |
