[Also in Division D1] A web, formed by winding a helix of filaments around endless advancing carriers 10 by means of a ring 34 carrying spindles 44, flattening the helix by means of upper and lower pairs of belts supported by plates 62 and cutting the edges of the flattened helix by knives 86, may, prior to the last-mentioned operation, be laminated to a plastics web or to longitudinal strands or to both which may be fed from a means 81. Plastics may also be sprayed on the web from heads 82. Laminating may be effected by heated rolls and glass fibres may be embedded in the plastics web. The composite web may pass through a curing furnace 84. The filaments forming the helix may be of glass, nylon or polyvinyl chloride. |
