<p>Stopper mechanism for a ladle, or for a tundish on a continuous casting plant, has the stopper rod (a) connected via an arm to a guide rod (b) driven vertically in a thick walled steel container fitted with top and bottom glide bearings and guide elements (c) for rod (b). The bottom end of rod (b) below the closed steel container is fitted with gear teeth meshing with a gear segment mounted on a pivot and used to raise or lower the rod (b); the pivot being located in an adjacent frame. The container pref. has two diametrically-opposite slots, each contg. a U-shaped element (c) moved radially inwards to surround a vertical rib provided on each side of rod (b). The glide bearings for rod (b) are protected against heat and dirt by the closed steel container, which also prevents the bending or distortion of rod (b). The latter can thus be raised or lowered without friction of jamming and smooth operation of rod (a) is ensured.</p> |
