The welding helmet has a built-in extractor for the fumes produced by manual or automatic processes. It comprises a visor (1), projecting above the observation glass in the helmet and designed to catch the fumes (4) as they rise. Its rear peak (2) is connected to a flexible pipe (3) passing down inside the helmet and connected to a suitable suction source. This enables the fumes to be automatically removed as they arise, the pipe forming no impediment to vision. If required, the flexible pipe can be anchored to the helmet and used to support its weight, an overhead suspension unit being used.
