An anti-edema substance, which has a maximum U.V. absorbance at 280 m. microns determined in a buffer 'solution of pH 7.5 and a value by Copper-Folin method of 358, is obtained from pressed juice of Ananas and/or Bromelia plants by treating the pressed juice with acidic and basic ion-exchange resins and treating the unabsorbed fraction with proteinprecipitating agents. The product may be purified by dialysis, electrophoresis, paper-cbromatography or thin-layer chromatography. |
