A high sensitivity creep detector for measuring small creep deformations of materials, particularly metals, comprises a heating oven 1 comprising an isothermal chamber 1 in which a test specimen 3 experiences a static elongating load and an unloaded control specimen 4 of the same dimension are disposed, differential variations in the length of the two specimens being transmitted via sensing elements 8, 9 connected to the specimens, to a micrometer system 12. Movements caused by the differential elongation of the two specimens are transmitted to two quartz sensing fingers 8, 9 which elongations are measured on a pneumatic micrometer comprising a compressed air nozzle 10 fixed to 13 which co-operates with a plate 11, fixed to a lever 4, the levers 13, 14 being acted upon by fingers 8, 9. The loading is applied through a balance beam 25 pivoted to a base plate 20 on which a balance weight 27 and an adjustable weight 28 forming the test load are hung. Balance beam 25 is connected by way of an articulation 29 to rod 6 and specimen 3. |
