The lock is used for a cabinet with several stacked drawers opened in horizontal direction. This arrangement has vertical locking bar actuated by a central lock cylinder and with locking pins acting in conjunction with actuating cams of the drawers. The flat top shelf plate can be pulled out independently of the position of the drawers in the cabinet or in the writing desk stand. The flat shelf panel (33) which is pulled out parallel to the drawers (3) has an extension stop. This is related to the matching stop (45) of the locking bar (7) so that both stops (45, 46) are situated face to face after the vertical position of the locking bar (7) has been adjusted by the lock cylinder (21).
