<p>A stepless variable speed drive with an endless belt (12) connecting two pulleys has both pulleys in two halves (e.g. 11, 24) with curved contact faces (22, 24) which can be moved apart to give a smaller pitch circle dia. in the conventional manner. One pulley half (24) is also the cylinder (23) of a multi-piston hydraulic operating system. This cylinder houses two pistons (30, 37) which form two main chambers (35, 44). Two partitions (28, 40) which alternate with the pistons also form buffer chambers (36, 45). They are each selectively connected with atmosphere through channels (50, 51) which interact with hydraulic fluid supply channels (46, 47, 49) through the hollow spindle (21) projecting from the fixed pulley half (11) and on which slides the combined pulley and cylinder.</p> |
