1512240 Water-dilutable alkyd resins BAYER AG 25 Sept 1975 [28 Sept 1974] 39311/75 Heading C3R A water-dilutable binder based on an airdrying short-oil alkyd resin is prepared by condensing a polyol, a polycarboxylic acid, an air-drying oil or acid and a natural resin modified phenolic resin to form an alkyd resin having a polyol : polycarboxylic acid : air-drying oil or acid molar ratio of 1 : 0À5-1 : 0À3-1, and reacting the alkyd resin with a dicarbonylic acid anhydride to form an alkyd resin semiester having an acid number of from 30 to 70, a hydroxyl number of from 40 to 120, an airdrying oil or acid content of from 15 to 50% by weight and a phenolic resin content of from 2 to 10% by weight. The example describes preparing an alkyd resin from linseed oil, pentaerythritol, trimethylol propane, linseed oil fatty acid, benzoic acid, phthalic anhydride and a natural resin modified phenolic resin and preparing the semiester by reaction with tetrahydrophthalic anhydride, followed by reaction with triethylamine and preparation of a lacquer by the addition of a drier; water and solvents.
|
