Cellulose fibre slurry treatment - using pressure waves to separate and clean the fibres

In the processing of a cellulose fibre slurry of fibre concn. 10-90%, the material is subjected to an intermittent elastic compression pressure. The slurry can be a chemical, semi-chemical or mechanical slurry, or of used paper, in a process for fibre extraction, paper making, removal of printing pigments, bleaching, etherising of esterising and the like. The fibres are subjected to pressure waves of duration =1 second, giving an internal pressure in the fibres in excess of 0.2 atmos. the fibres are allowed to expand between the pressure waves without distortion and the process is repeated until the fibres are fully inpregnated and/or the surrounding fluid is exchanged. Process ensures that the fibres are completely sepd. from each other and are sufficiently swollen for further processing.
