The torque converter consists of a drive shaft (1) on which at least one carrier (2) is mounted. A number of arms (4) can swing from pivots on the carrier. Rollers (7, 8) are mounted on the ends of the arms. The converter further consists of a housing which has a bore, the centre of which is off-set from the centre of the drive shaft. The housing is divided into a fixed part (10) and a part (11) which is connected to the output shaft. The part connected to the output shaft can move relative to the input shaft. The rollers which move round with the drive shaft engage with the bore in both parts of the housing.
