The rectangular box has a lid that fits down over it at the edges, the middle sections of the sides are recessed, so that a channel is formed at the top for the lid to fit into, in such a way that in some places the edge of the lid is on the interior, while in others it shows at the exterior (and receives a padlock). The slot at the top is wholly below the surface so that the boxes can be stacked (they have interlocking rims top and bottom to keep the stack straight), the slot is normally kept closed by a spring-loaded internal cover.
